Why a modern sage?

I’m not sure if it was meant to be an insult or a complement. In 2004, a coworker once remarked that for a history guy, I seemed to have a lot of “general” knowledge beyond my degree fields.

Since then, I’ve considered it an honor to be called a modern sage. I have always believed when we decide to stop learning we start dying.
